The Nice Guys have been a part of the San Diego scene since 1979, helping local families and individuals who, through no fault of their own, have fallen on tough times. Our goal is to get people back on their feet and self-sufficient.

The Nice Guys serve the community and take social responsibility. Our only reward is, and always has been, the pleasure that comes from helping others.

We depend on people like you to donate so we can continue to help those who need a helping hand in San Diego!

The Nice Guys obtain donations in three ways:

Auction - Held each Spring, this giant black-tie optional event offers hundreds of great deals on donated items, including exciting trips and vacations, valuable collectibles and memorabilia, and countless other items and services. The gourmet buffet dinner is provided by some of the finest restaurants in San Diego.

Nice Guy of the Year Dinner - Each Fall we honor a local San Diegan (not necessarily one of our members) who has demonstrated extraordinary devotion and commitment to the community. This huge black-tie optional event is held at one of San Diego’s finest venues, offers a fabulous sit-down dinner, an awards presentation to our Nice Guy of the Year, and dancing to one of best bands in the area.

Donations - We also depend on generous supporters such as yourself. If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile organization, please click on the Donate button below and follow the simple instructions.

Individuals and families in need of assistance contact us either directly at the address below, or are referred to us by various government agencies, civic groups, and churches.

Our hard-working Charity Committee assigns each request a case number and a case worker. The case worker investigates the merits of the request and reports back to the Committee the following month with a recommendation. The Committee votes on whether or not to approve the request. Final approval comes from our Board of Directors.

We receive some 500 requests a year for everything from computers to car repairs, from furniture to wheelchairs, and from clothing to hearing aids.

In 2007, we raised nearly $500,000 and gave back 100% of that amount to some 350 families and individuals in San Diego County. We have no overhead, no office, no paid staff. The 160+ Nice Guys donate their time and labor to help the less fortunate.

Throughout our 29 years, we have never swayed from our organization’s unique motto:

“Offering a hand up, not a handout.”

One of the more visible projects the Nice Guys work on all year long is providing wheelchair vans to those who cannot afford them. Our vans (such as the one pictured above right) can been seen all over the county with our distinctive logo in the back window.

In order to give away vans, we must first obtain them, and our primary source for vans is the public. If you have a van or other vehicle looking for a new home, please contact the Nice Guys. Because of our 501(c)3 status, your donation is tax deductible.
